It’s a good question, and one I’ve spent some time considering. On the one hand, the right message can be a great way to spread the Word and inspire fellow runners. But an overly zealous message can have the effect of antagonizing people or turning them off to the Faith. There is a good happy medium to be found, although can’t say I know where it is. As for me, this is my race shirt of choice!
Anyone have any other suggestions?
Meanwhile, one poster on the thread offered this nice pre-running prayer :
All powerful and all loving God.Have a blessed weekend!
I praise you for your goodness, and the gift of Your creation.
Thank you for the abilities you have given me, and for
Your help in my training that has brought me this far.
Be with me today as I run, only because of Your love for me.
Send Your angels to lift my legs,
to make swift my feet,
and guard me from injury and harm.
Help me to do all my best
so that I will bring honor and glory to Your name.
Thank you God, forever and ever Amen

Love the shirt. I enyoy running by or getting passed (well less enjoyable in getting passed) by someone that shares their faith. I started putting a large cross on my calf with a sharpee several months ago. It is subtle yet may get an Amen out of my fellow runners.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the great blog!
I just foubnd your blog while I was searching for Patron Saint for Marathons . . . I love it!
ReplyDeleteI saw a shirt from team413.org at my most reacent race and I really want to get one! The back of the shirt says "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." I think that that is the perfect verse to see in the middle of a race!
Love the shirt. I have just started running myself (5ks right now...figure I will work on getting those 'right' before moving on).
ReplyDeleteI ran across these http://316athleticwear.com/items/techRunningShirt_detail.php from 316 gear that seem pretty nice and they do custom stuff.
My favorite quote has always been "I have fought the fight, finished the race, kept the faith."
Of course I haev fallen in love with your quote from JP2 on the right here (that would look cool).
